MCDOWELL'S RIDE
MOUNT ON' FOREST GLOW
(Special to the "Evening Post.")
PALMERSTON N., This Day.
W. J. McDowell, who has been .in good form recently, will ride Forest Glow in the Grand National Steeplechase, and W. J. Broughton has been engaged for Tail Light. C. Thomson is not going south.* L. Knapp's two horses left yesterday for Riccarton.
Following a light .frost the going was good at Awapuni yesterday morning and there were a number of useful working gallops.
Forest Glow (G. Tattersall) and Tail Light (B. Browne) were sent over a mile. They were clocked to run the first two furlongs in 30 4-ssec, the first five in lmin 10 2-ssec, and the full distance in lmin 57 2-ssec, both finishing solidly. It was quite a nice effort.
Cloudy Bay (W. E. Pine) and Mirth (W. J. Broughton) were timed to cover the last three of a six-furlong nutter in 43 4-ssec. This was another attractive work-out.
Severe (Broughton) led Round Score (C. Thomson) to the far turn in a gallop over six furlongs, but- Round Score had closed the gap before they reached vthie post, the time being lmin 24 4-ssec.
Lavish was speeded up -. down the back and she sprinted the last three furlongs in 43 4-ssec, not being under pressure at any stage.
Miss Pango (L. Parkes) and Prince Reno (I. Rohloff) were companions in a round of the hurdle fences, both jumping particularly well.
The Lord Quex—Table Talk colt Corroboree, who has been spelling for six months, has again been taken in hand by Luke Wilson. He looks all the better for his holiday.
