WHAT BUDGET WILL REVEAL
BIGGER PAYMENTS TO PENSIONERS
LAND AS SOURCE OF REVENUE
'Substantial increases in income taxation, estimated to yield approximately £1,000,000, and the re-imposition of the graduated land tax, estimated to produce just under £1,000,000, will be outstanding features of the first Labour Budget, to be presented to the House of Representatives tonight by the Minister of Finance (the Hon. W. Nash). Apart from these two items there will be no alteration of the taxation system. The Minister will aim at a balanced Budget. The Budget will also provide for: ■ Increased war pensions; Increased old age pensions, together with the removal of existing anomalies; Increased miners' pensions; Increased widows' pensions; The provision of an invalid pension of £1 per week, with 10s a week extra for the wife and each dependant under the age of 16 years.
