NATIONAL ZOOLOGICAL GARDEN
(To the Editor.)
Sir,—l feel sure that I have'the'support of thousands "of Wellingtohians and country folk in submitting to" the City Council that it approach the Government with regard to forming -the present Wellington Zoo into a National Zoological Garden. ■ The opening ofthe National Art'Gallery-and'Domin-ion Museum will undoubtedly bring the Zoo under further adverse criticism, and.the inability of the municipality to make the most of it through all these years is in itself a plea for making the Zoo, as in many other countries; a'national responsibility. I suggest that the sooner the authorities realise that they have to make the Zoo worthy of the name and a credit to this city the sooner will they be nd of an institution of which, in its present state, no citizen can be genuinely proud.—l am, etc.,, , -' A. E. SMUTS-KENNEDY.
