REFUSES TO RESIGN
CANADIAN PARTY LEADER
ANTIPATHY TO COMMUNISM
VANCOUVER, July 31.
Declaring that Communists in the party were seeking to undermine it, the Rev. Robert Connell, Leader in the Legislature of the Canadian Commonwealth Federation, flatly refused to accept the platform drawn up at a recent provincial convention calling for the socialisation of wealth and industry. He also refuses to resign. The executive has been called to consider the crisis. ,»
In a letter Mr. Connell states that one of the leaders in the party is. also an organiser for the Communist Party. Declaring that the pressure of the Radicals in the organisation is unbearable, he tells them: "I am not ashamed of my loyalty to either my God or my King."
The Commonwealth Party is the largest opposition group in the Legislature, with seven members.
