TOWN HALL CONCERT

I The second of the series of Sunday i evening concerts in the Town Hall, I held under the auspices of the City Council, was thoroughly enjoyed by a' larga audience last night. The features of the evening were provided by the Institute Silver Band and by Mr. Gunnar Paulssn, organist of the State Theatre. Auckland, but any amount of variety was introduced in serious and light music and national dancing. The doubts which were expressed whether Sunday concerts in the Town Hall would prove.sufficiently popular to justify the council's scheme of pooling proceeds for division among the musical societies taking part at the end of the season would appear to be dispelled: the audience last night was considerably larger than that at the first concert of the series. Band numbers included marches and selections from popular composers and the very successful "Two Little Finches." in which Bandmaster J. King and Bandsman V. Jacobs played the cornet duet. Mr. Paulsen's numbers were "On the Road to Mandalay," "At Dawning.' "Souvenir," "Liebestraume," Boccherini's "Minuet," "Because," and encore items. ■ . . ots eF en3oyable items were contributed by Miss Alma Cowie (mezzosoprano), Mr; Bert Hickford (baritone^ o-rn™race cKaJ' and Miss Jean O Connor, who danced the double sword dance to the pipng of Mr A Barclay. Messrs. Ron Cowie and No? man Grenfell, baritone and bass in vocal duets, and Mr. Ron Wakelin iS 'humorous recitations and nonsense at | the piano. Mrs. Andrey Gibson Foster played, the. accompaniments.
