The young men of the Junior "Toe I H" invited their friends to a guest night in the R.S.Ai rooms at Lower Hutt. The committee responsible for the success of the entertainment com!prised Messrs. L. Hunt (M.C.), '■J.-.01- ---! phert, R. Purvis, C. Dawson, J. Davies, and Hi Power. Mrs. Hunt was official hostess for. the occasion. Before supper was served, pupils of Miss E. Draper, Miss Thelma Whitcher, and Mr. Hay gave an exhibition of the modern waltz and quickstep.

Complimentary Party.

Dr. and Mrs. A. G. Butchers were the host and hostess for a very delightful dance held in the supper room of the Horticultural Society's Hall, when their daughter Joan was the special guest of honour. The room was beautifully ■ decorated . with -. holly against a background of forest foliage, with daphne, jonquils, and Iceland poppies for the tables.

Cheerful : speeches at supper time were made by Mr. E.G. Thompson and Mr. W. Hay. The guests were' received by Dr. and Mrs..Butchers, the latter wearing a frock of maize-colour-ed lace and georgette. The guest of honour was dainty in turquoise-blue net, with a floral shoulder-spray. Among those present were Mr. and Mrs; W. Hay, the Misses M. Butchers (floral voile), M. McCaul (Marina lace), B. Parents' Association; Members and friends of ttie Hutt Valley High School Parents'- Association attended a social and dance in the school's gymnasium in Wobum Road.: In spite of the snowy weather, there was a considerable number present Community singing was conducted by Mr. R. G. Cowie, with Mr. Mann as accompanist, and two songs were given by Mrs. H. W. Dallisori. A recitation by Mrs. T. Dowse, and a monologue from Mr. J. D. Grey contributed to the evening's amusement. The Horticultural Hall at Lower Hutt saw a crowded floor for the fancy dress party of the Boulcott Street School children. A great number of parents and interested friends enjoyed the entertainment provided by the different classes in their various dance and drill numbers, which did credit to the staff responsible for the training of the children. In addition to the school committee, the guests included the Mayor and Mayoress, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Andrews, Mrs. W. Nash, Mr. and Mrs. W. Dyer, and Mr. and Mrs. J. Stonehouse, The programme was arranged by the headmaster, Mr. Burke, and the school staff. The "grand march" was followed by the judging of the prize-winning costumes in the upper and lower standards and in the infants' grade. Dance duos were given by S. and M. Jenness, and K. Wood and B. Dawson, and a solo dance by S. Goss. The staff and Miss Kathleen" B'artosh provided the musical accompaniments. A presentation was made to Miss C. M. Whisker, until recently a teacher at the school, from the pupils and members of the school committee. Prizes were awarded in the infants' grade to Maud Cairns (Hayniarket girl), Henrietta Mac Donald (coster girl), June Bertelsen (fairy), Colin Swift (John Bull), Colin Wyatt (Popeye the Sailor), and John Pilcher (Robin Hood). Standards 1 to 3: Kimber Baddeley (pirate), Norman Mclvor (hotwater bottle), Margaret Mouat (penguin), Ken Hayes (coster), Eric Fraser (Zulu), Keith West (Beau Brummel). Standards 4 to 6: Joy Langford (Rumanian girl), Shirley Simpson (Juliet), June Beatty (bridesmaid), A. Pecini (tiimpeter), Bob Jiustard (Roman Centurion), and Harold Steadman ("Jarge"). The special prize for the most original costume in the hall went to Colin Wyatt as "Popeye the Sailor." Informal Dance. The clubhouse of toe Hutt Golf Club was the scene of a successful informal dance on Saturday evening. Both the dance-room and the sitting-out lounge were brightened by cheery fires, and although the weather was bitter, many members and their friends were present, A buffet supper of delicious savouries was served in the main room.
