PAT DONOGHUE'S TRIUMPH
For the second year in succession, Stove Donoghue's son Pat, who has been training under Pony Turt Club rules for only two years, produced the winner of the Northolt (Pony) Derby. Last year he won the race with the Embargo colt Evasion, and this year on June 15 he had an easy triumph I with the chestnut Ethnarch filly Ethelstone, bred and owned by Mr. H. J. Brueton.
The day was one of the most successful Pat Donoghue has experienced smce he began training under pony rules. Not only did Ethelstone win the Derby, but Evasion was also winner of the Surrey Plate, 1£ miles, and the grey mare -Ann Presto scored■;in the Ethelstone colours in the Essex Plate, 5 furlongs. Ethelstone is regarded as one of the best horses ever recruited under P.T.C. rules. The Derby was her. third win in line. ' Incidentally she was an appropriate stable tip, as she occupied the same box, No. 27, as Plutus, Mountain Cloud, and Evasion, three of the. last four Derby winners.
