FIXED PRICES
NOT ANNOUNCED YET
MAY BE WITH BUDGET
MINISTER'S STATEMENT
Though they have been fixed, the guaranteed prices for butterfat, which operate as from today and which dairy farmers all over the Dominion are particularly anxious to know, are not to be released until early next week. This was indicated today by the Minister of Marketing (the Hon. W. Nash), who stated in an interview that he was not yet in a position to disclose the figure. j"You can rest assured," he said, "that ; the farmers will know as soon as they are in a position to deliver their produce. They can scarcely do that before next Wednesday."
The Government's inability to reveal the desired information today was confirmed by the Prime Minister (the Rt. M. J. Savage), who declined to amplify his statement.
There is a definite possibility that the information may be given to the country when the Budget comes down on Tuesday night.
From today all dairy produce produced and manufactured will become the< property of the State when it is placed upon the steamer for export.
