PIANO WORKERS

WAGES AND HOURS

(By Telegraph—Press 'Association.)

~ AUCKLAND, July 31. As with' other' claims for awards heard in conciliation council, no settlement could be reached when the Auckland United' Furniture Trades Industrial Union, of Workers, claimed for piano tuners ..and repairers a 40-hour five-day week and increased wages and overtime rates. Those clauses relating to these three matters were referred to the Arbitration Court. It was the first time an award had been claimed for these workers: Mr. P. Hally presided. Minimum weekly wages of £6 for all piano tuners and repairers was claimed by the union.
