JULY BEST MONTH FOR YEARS
The net Customs revenue collected in Wellington last month totalled £289,466, the highest monthly total sjnee June, 1930, Compared with the amount collected :in July, 1935, £212,088,, last ' month's . total was £77,378 more. For the seven months of '.the* current year the net revenue had amounted to £1,827,414, compared with £1,479,870 in. the corresponding period last year, an 'increase of £347,544. - The following is a detailed monthly comparison:— ■ 1936. 1935. £ £ . '_.The beer collection totalled £4070, compared .with £4618 in July, -1935, a decrease of £548. For the seven months, however,. there is- an increase of £2415, the figures being £33,674 and £31,259 respectively. ■ . :, .^ Sales tax collections continue" to maintain a steady rise. For last month the total was £86,640, compared with £68,855 in the same month last year, an increase of £17,785. For the seven months the total this year is £587,597 an increase of £110,777 over last year's corresponding total of £476,820. Since the tax was first imposed in February, 1933, the total Wellington collection has been £2,498,899. -- ' V.; \ Motor spirit: duty in July totalled £59,797, made up of £35,877 at 6d a gallon and £23,920, at 4d a gallon. That was an increase of £8247 over the'total for July, 1935, which-was £01,550, made up of £30,927 at 6d a gallon and £20,623 at 4d a gallon. For the seven months this year the total was £485,264, compared with £389,481 last year, an increase of £95,783 I Fn U!.
