DE SOTO'S FORM
TEN WINS THIS SEASON
De Soto, who will probably dispute favouritism for the August Handicap with Grand Mogul, is another who has proved his ability in saddle and harness, and on good and bad tracks. Although his efforts over two miles have been scarcely as impressive as those of Grand Mogul, he downed the champion of the north in King's Warrior in both the principal events at the Auckland Trotting Club's Winter Meeting, and brought his record for the season to fifteen starts for ten wins, two seconds, and a third.
De Soto has won from a mile to two miles. He is only rising six years, has been carefully placed and raced, and his improvement in staying ability was very marked in his latest races.
The August Handicap is a race invariably won by the improving type of horse, as evidence War Buoy last year. Blue Mountain in 1934, Sir Guy in.1933, and Red Shadow in 1932. All these pacers were on the up grade and went on to better deeds, and the most qualified of this year's field' to follow in their footsteps are Grand Mogul and De Soto.
