SHIELD CHALLENGE
FERMENT IN SOUTH

DUNEDIN, This Day. One of the main topics of conversation in the south is the Otago-Soulh-land Ranfurly Shield match tomorrow, and while the supporters of both sides! are optimistic of the result, a studied j survey of the position would appear to favour Otago, especially if conditions are at all favourable for their fleet-footed backs. The weather this week, however, has been wet and unless a strong drying wind is experienced Carisbrook Park will be heavy. A crowd of 30,000 is expected. No fewer than eleven special trains and I feeders are being run from Invercargill. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, This Day. Rain and snow continuing this morning -make it certain that the ground will be very heavy for the Ranfurly Shield match tomorrow. Six special trains from Southland are I estimated to be bringing over 5000 I people from . Invcrcargill and interi mediate stations. Five hundred will be coming on the Oamaru special and with motorists, it is estimated that the city will be invaded by nearly I 10,000 people.
