RUGBY FOOTBALL
SENIOR A GRADE
POINTS AND PROMOTION
So far this season the local senior A grade first division Rugby football competition has been 'contested by eight teams, as also has the senior A second division competition. In the first round of these divisions' the striving for points and places is every bit as keen- as in the second. round, one reason being that two second division teams are to be promoted to the first division for the second round of the competition. The promoted teams carry forward the points they have gained up to the maximum gained by the leading team in the top division at the end of the first round. Topgrade teams, therefore, seek to make every post a winning one, so that the teams that are promoted will not have too great a points' advantage over those in the. lower places on the ladder for the start of the second round.
The fi:'/i of the seven series, of matches in the first round is to be decided tomorrow, and in the top division Eastbourne will reisirn to headquarters as leaders. Wellington College Old Boys (who meet the leaders) and Poneke are each two points behind Eastbourne, with Athletic, next. Johnsonville are similarly placed; to Eastbourne with an unbeaten record in the second division, one point clear of Athletic, with St. Patrick's College Old Boys also strong claimants for promotion.
