ST. JAMES THEATRE.
Delightful character etching is a feature of "A Feather in Her Hat " t1 eh 2^^ a blg drawing card at the St James Theatre. It is remarkable for the all-star cast that interprets an emotional tale of mother k>ve that makes the supreme sacrifice for a son As Clarissa Phipps, a shopkeeper who denies her motherhood that her son may find a niche in a social world higher than her own, Pauline Lord, first lady of the Broadway stage, plays a role that suits her to perfection There are no hysterics about the part: Miss Lord makes it a dignified, sincere, lovable role, and in her reactions, makes it a very memorable performfance. There are many poignant moments in the development of the charming, simple tale. Basil Kathbone, British actor, gives a faultless performance as the Captain; Louis Hay ward, another British actor, a handsome juvenile, plays the son to perfection; Billie Burke gives another of her staccato performances as Julie Trent, an ex-actress trying to make money; Wendy Barrie, another British contribution to the cast, is Richard Phipps's aristocratic sweetheart; and Victor Varconi is Miss Burkes husband. "A Feather in Her Hat" provides a real motional experience for theatregoers. The bill also includes a novel turn by the Radio Rogues, who sing and impersonate Hollywood stars in an amusing comedy; a GaumontGraphic; "Seeing Stars"—shots of famous screen people at San Diego; and a cartoon.
