PALACE THEATRE, PETONE.
George Arliss in his greatest picture since "Disraeli"—"Cardinal Richelieu" —is now showing at the Palace Theatre. Adapted from the famous play by Sir Edward Bulwer-Lytton, the film depicts the colourful drama of the redrobed prelate who became a power behind the' throne of Louis XIII during those stormy days in feudal France when the Church and State were contending for supremacy. Greedy jackals rose at the power of Cardinal Richelieu, the populace clamoured for his head, yet his wisdom and his understanding were such that this man could defy a king, throw a world into tumult, and halt his empire building so that a wisp of a girl might marry the man of her choice. The supporting programme includes the latest Silly Symphony cartoon in colour.
