TOUR OF THE DOMINION

BICYCLING ENGLISHWOMAN

A four months' tour of New Zealand by bicycle, covering an approximate distance of 1500 miles, was the interesting holiday which has just been completed by Mrs. Edith Pink, an Englishwoman resident in Manly, Sydney, states the "Sydney Morning Herald. It is not the first time that Mrs. Pink has chosen this unusual form of travelling, for ten years ago she made a six months' tour of England by bicycle. A light change of clothing sufficient food for a day, and a hot drink such as coffee or milk in a thermos was the only luggage carried by Mrs. Pink when she accomplished her recent bicycle tour of New Zealand. However, if she expected to visit a large city, where she would remain for a few'days, she would send ahead a suitcase containing a large supply of clothing and necessities. With the aid of road maps and guidebooks, she set out from Auckland to Rotorua, and thence along the coast to Gisborne, Napier, and Palmerston North, and Wellington. Crossing to the South Island, she progressed from Nelson down the west coast to the Franz Josef and Fox Glaciers. Exclusive of boat fares, the tour cost her only £48, and, although she had' accepted several lifts in varied vehicles, the cyclometer registered 1500 miles after she had continued from Christchurch and Dunedin to Queenstown, and finally to the Bluff, whence she took a steamer to Melbourne.
