BABY CARNIVAL FINALE

PLUNKET SOCIETY EFFORT

The Baby Carnival organised by the Coastal Towns branch of the Plunket Society, terminated in a very enjoyable afternoon held in the Methodist Hall, Porirua, when visitors were present from Paraparaumu, Paekakariki, Pukerua Bay, Plimmerton, Pahautanui, Titahi Bay, Tawa Flat, and Johnsonville, includii,* mothers of the various baby candidates and district, Miss Hooper, Nurse Paynter (Wellington), Dr. Paterson (Paraparaumu), Mr. C. Gray (PukerUa Bay), Mr. Lawrence (Johnsonville), and Mr. R. W. Bothamley (Porirua).

Mrs. C. Gray (president of the Coastal branch), welcomed the 200 guests and complimented the various committees on the huge success of the carnival which had realised over £200, and thanked Mr. and Mrs. Graves and Mr. E. Johnston (who had organised the successful dance at Titahi Bay), Mr. and Mrs. Tootel (for a picture, evening for the Plimmerton baby), Mr. and Mrs. Barclay and friends, Pahautanui (for dance in aid of branch funds), Mrs. Marshall (Titahi Bay), Mrs. Molloy (Paremata), and all friends who had assisted in various ways throughout the whole district. Mrs. Gray then called upon Mrs. H. W. Bothamley to crown the successful baby King Paul Murray (Porirua), and present the prizes. | Mr. Bothamley, treasurer of the coastal branch, spoke of the wonderful results achieved by co-operating in such a movement, which was of benefit to the whole community. Mrs. Gray presented the mother of each candidate with a posy. Mrs. Murphy (Plimmerton) responded and presented a posy of roses and lavender on behalf of the mothers to Mrs. Gray.

A short musical programme was given by Marie Ryan (pianoforte solo), Dorothy and Shirley Hughes (pianoforte duet), Peggy Stewart, Betty Colley, P. Blackbee, and Master Keith Hughes (recitations). A delicious afternoon tea was dispensed by the members of the Porirua committee, assisted by Nurse Welsh (branch Plunket nurse), and friends. Mrs. Hassall was complimented on the platform decorations. Mrs. Reeves, president of the Paraparaumu sub-branch, moved a very hearty vote of thanks to the Porirua committee for the able manner in which they had carried out their duties, and wishing every one season's greetings, brought a very happy afternoon to a close.
