"Who owns those ferry-boats I tripped over coming down the stairs just now?"' inquired the lodger. The landlady gave a. fierce look. "Ferry-boats, indeed!" she gasped. "I'll have you understand they are my shoes."
The lodger gulped uneasily. "Did I say ferry-boats?" he hastily asked. "I meant 'fairy boots.'"
