HITLER TO HIS TROOPS

WATCHWORD FOR 1936

"FORWARD FOR PEACE"

DECISIVE YEAR PASSED

United Press Association—By Electric Trtt-

grapli—Copyright (Received January 2, noon.) BERLIN, January 1

A semi-official statement says Uiat Germany is not at present inclined lo agree to a limitation of armaments under the Air Locarno or any regional Pacts outlined in the Franco-British declaration of Febru-

ary, 1935. • The Foreign Office Spokesman described the Franco-Russian Pact as "a menace to Germany," especially in view of the Russo-Czech military agreement which, it is alleged, gives Russia an air basis in Czechoslovakia.

Heir Hitler, in a New Year proclamation to the armed forces, said: "A decisive year in German military history lies behind us. Germany once more is free and armed. The watchword for 1936 is, 'Again and again forward, for peace, honour, and the strength of tlte nation.' " Dr. Goebbels's New Year message to the nation says: "Future historians will call 1935 'the year of German freedom,' because by equipping herself for defence Germany has ceased to be 'a playball in the hands of world Powers.'
