GIRL'S APPEAL
HUSBAND .WANTED
LETTER TO DUNEDIN MAYOR
(By Telegraph.) (Special to the "Evening Post.")
DUNEDIN, This Day,
Many unusual appeals come to the Mayor of a city, but seldom is he asked to use his office as a matrimonial agency in an attempt to find a husband in New Zealand. However, a London girl has sought the help of the Mayor of Dunedin (the Rev. Mr. Cox)*
"I am writing to make an unusual request," wrote the young lady, "but I hope you will help me. Could you put me in touch with a man in NewZealand who would marry me and give a home to my mother? ,1 have always had a great desire to go to New Zealand. I have heard so manygood things about the people and the country. I work in an office and support my widowed mother, but it is only a bare existence, and I would like her to have a more comfortable home and less anxiety over money for the remaining years of her life. If there is any man in New Zealand (I hear they are both kind and chivalrous) who will pay our fares and take care of my mother I would do my best to be a grateful and loving wife to him. I do not mind living in an isolated spot and I do not mind how old the man is, or whether he is a bachelor or a widower. I am 24 years of age and am of mixed Scottish and Welsh ancestry, tall, and ot medium colouring with blue eyes and brown hair."
