STATE THEATRE.

The "Thanks a Million1' season at the State Theatre is to conclude tonight. Dick Powell has with him such a troupe of performers as has seldom been brought together in the history of the screen, and for the plot the novel adventures of an entertainer and his concert party fighting a wild and exhilarating political campaign for a State Governorship. The songs include "Thanks a Million," "I've Got a Pocketful of Sunshine," "I'm. Sittin' -High on a Hilltop," and "Sugar Plum." As the carefree I young entertainer who, all unwittingly, wins his way to the State Governorship, Dick Powell is at the top of his form, and Ann Dvorak makes an annealing heroine. ■ ■ Intensely human drama, delightful romance, and a young man's unswerving devotion to an ideal are epitomised against a background of Indiana forests in the film production of the famous novel, "Freckles," which brings Tom Brown to the screen in the title role, "Freckles" is a story of a youth's love for a. girl and his gallant sacrifice and epic courage in the face of desperate odds. Written by Gene Stratum Porter, the story in its transition to the talking screen retains all the charm and appeal of the book. Carol Stone, 'daughter of the noted stage star, Fred Stone, makes her screen debut in "Freckles" in the feminine lead. Only eighteen years of age, Miss Stone is ideally cast as Brown's young sweetheart. "Freckles", is to be shown at the State tomorrow.
