ENJOYING THE HOLIDAY
ALL BEACHES CROWDED
Although there was a cool southeasterly breeze yesterday, there was more tli an adequate sunshine to counteract it, and thousands of Wellington's citizens spent the major part of the day in the open air. Every beach and picnic resort was thronged by holiday-makers, and judging by the number of people to be seen enjoying a dip there should have been a perceptible rise in the level of the waters of the harbour.
Over 2000 people went on the Rangatira for an excursion to the Marlborough Sounds, and had a very pleasant outing. Many others journeyed to the Wairarapa, the races at Tauherenikau being the chief attraction in that direction, and trains and motors carried heavy loads. In Wellington itself there was the tennis tournament at Miramar to provide entertainment for those whose tastes lie in the direction of .watching games, while many players took part in the tournament at Muritai. Bowlers had a full day with a pairs tournament, and a number of minor cricket matches were played. Carnivals at Petone and Evans Bay added their quota to the day's entertainments. Many spent a more restful holiday by going to the pictures, and all these houses of entertainment did capacity business at all sessions.
Today's weather is even better than yesterday's, and those fortunate enough to be still holiday-mak-ing have been doing much the same as they did yesterday, getting more and more sunburnt and feeling more and more disinclined to return to the ordinary routine of earning one's daily bread.
