MAN FATALLY HURT

WOMAN ALSO INJURED

A motor-car travelling up Jervois Quay towards Cable Street at about .11.15 o'clock on New Year's Eve struck Mr. Joseph Stent, a salesman, of 18 Riddiford Street, Newtown, inflicting injuries from which Mr. Stent died within two hours. Mrs. Bertha Higgins, of 46 Jackson Street, Island Bay, who was also knocked down by the car, suffered slight concussion, but she was able to return home after receiving attention at the hospital.

Mr. Stent was crossing Jervois Quay from the wharves, going in the direction of Lower Cuba Street. He suffered severe head injuries and was taken to hospital by the Free Ambulance. He died at 1.15 a.m. yesterday. He wa sa middle-aged man and married, and was employed by John Duthie and Co., Ltd.
