THE LINDBERGHS

ARRIVAL IN ENGLAND

PRIVACY WANTED

LONDON, January 1.

Colonel Lindbergh, his wife, and son arrived at Liverpool on an American cargo steamer and motored immediately to an unknown destination. Colonel Lindbergh wpuld not make a statement. Conflicting rumours prevailed in America as to the reason of their secret departure, one suggestion being the impending execution of Hauptmann, and another that threat* had been made to kidnap or kill their son. The authorities and the public are co-operating to see that the Lindberghs are not importuned by the interest naturally aroused by the arrival of the famous airman, whosa transatlantic flight is still remembered. The British Broadcasting Corporation announced: "We believe tha Lindberghs have come to England to escape publicity. We are sure all our listeners would like us to respect the privacy of the family during its stay." Colonel Lindbergh, who will shortly announce his plans, is negotiating for the occupancy of a Riviera villa. The Lindberghs will stay a week at Cardiff with Mr. John Llewellyn Morgan, whose late daughter-in-law was Mrs. Lindbergh's sister. Prior to going to Cardiff the Lindberghs will remain in the seclusion of a suite at the Adelphi Hotel, Liverpool. When crowds learned of their arrival _ they formed a solid bank on all adjacent pavements.
