PRICES AT LOCAL SALE

At the fortnightly sale of hides'and skins held by Wellington woolbrokers yesterday attractive catalogues were offered to the usual attendance of buyers. .. . . .

Sheepskins were from Jd to Id a lb easier as compared with the last Wellington sale, and values are now back to. those ruling a month ago. The catalogue comprised the usual abattoir lines and a large number of country butchers' and farmers' lots. Excepting for a few lots prices advanced for all grades of hides, compared with last sale.

; Calfskins, were higher by id to 2Jd and. yearling from Jd for heavies "to 13d for light, weights. Cow hides advanced by 3-8 dto id, and light ox were 3-Bd'medium and heavy : ',d above last sale; -extra heavy ox were on a par \vith late rates. Tallow was firm.

The range,of prices is as follows:— Dry,sheepskins: Halfbred, 8d to 9Jd a lb; fine crossbred, 5Jd to BJid; medium, 6d to BJd; coarse, 4ld to 8d; half wools, 4d to 8d;- quarter wools, 3^d to 6£d; pelts, 2Jd to 4£d. Salted skins: Full wools, 5s 9d each. Hides: Ox, 331b to 441b 4 3-8 dto 5 3-8 d a lb, 451b to 521b 3 5-8 dto 5 7-Bd, 531b to 591b 3d to 6Jd, 601b to 691b 4i|d to 7d. 701b and over 4d to 7!d; cow, 331b to 391b, 33d to 5 5-Bd, 401b to 481b A\d to 53d, 491b and over 4Jd to 6 l-8d; kip. 251b to 321b 4^d to 53d, 171b to 241b 4!d to 7d: yearling, 111b to 161b 3£d to"8Jd; calf, 91b to 101b 3d to Bid, 61b to" 81b 7-Jd to 123 d, lib to 51b 10,fd to 12 3-Bd. Tallow: In casks, etc., 26s to 28s. 6d a cwt; in tins, 19s 6d to 22s 6d. Sundries: Horse hair, 19gd to 203 d a lb.

Black grapes from California, which arrived by the Makura, were selling at the Wellington markets yesterday at 22s for a 341b case. The grapes were sawdust packed and appeared to be in good condition. They are retailing at from lOd to Is 4d per lb, according to description.
