TROTTER'S FINE EFFORT

The performance of the trotting stallion Todd Lonzia among a field of good pacers hi-.: the Metropolitan Handicap at Forbury Park, last Saturday was one of the tit-bits of the meeting, and lovers of the pur»gaited horse derived considerable pleasure from the exhibition ..provided by the son ofLorene's Todd and Daphne Dean (says the "Times").

I Todd Lonzia was second out of the barrier, and'-'dropped back to fourth when two furlongs had been covered. He trotted.up to the leader a^ the six furlonga post and' raced in that,: position, until a mileiand a half hadbeen completed, where he went.into the lead;.and obtained au advantage -of- two lengths from Vesuvius, who had a similar lead from Cloudy Range. Todd Lonzia entered the home straight clear of his opponents, aud at that stage of the race a majority of enthusiasts would have bet that he would win, but Wild Guy. and Vesuvius made a terrific burst over the last furlong, and headed Todd Lonzia, who had to accept third place. In so doing he.put up a record for a trotter over two miles at Forbury, his time being 4min 26 4-ssec. He trotted his first mile in 2minlosec, and was at the miile and a half station in 3min 20 4-ssec It will be, seen he trotted his last mile in 2min. 11 4-ssec.

Todd Lonzia was bred by Mr. Charles Hudson and is raced on lease by Mr A H. Todd, of Dunedin. He is trained at Oamaru by J.. Henderson. ■
