The upper picture shows a typical evening scene at the Locomotive Depot at Thorndon. engine in centre is a "K," the latest and most powerful type of express locomotive, built at the Hutt Workshops. Next is a new "C" class engine, also built at the Hutt Shops, and used on the suburban services. Below is a view of one of the many remarkable railway bridges in the New Zealand railway system, the Makatote Viaduct.
