The photograph at the top shows Parliament House as it is today, comprising the central block, with the main steps, and one of the two wings. The second wing will replace the wooden building, formerly Government House. The left-hand lower picture is that of the Provincial Council Chambers, which were handed over to the Central Government, a new Provincial building being erected In 1872 in Customhouse Quay, on the site lately occupied by the Government Life Insurance Offices. The old Council building was incorporated in the group of buildings shown on the right. The central small picture shows the Parliamentary Buildings shortly before they were destroyed by fire in 1907,
