TRAVELLING CLUB
PROJECT OF Y.W.C.A,
A caravan, that Will really be a travelling clubhouse, is one of the projects of the Y.W.C.A., for the extension of its activities to the rural districts (states an Australian exchange). «. caravan will be used to try out the possibilities of various districts, and should the local enthusiasm warrant it, branches of the association will be formed. This scheme of decentralisation is being widely developed by the association and it has entailed much travelling for Miss Elsie Griffin, who, after ten years' work as national secretary of the Y.W.C.A,, is returning to her home in Auckland for twelve months' leave of absence.
Realising that unemployment prevents : many girls who cannot afford fares to the city from joining in club activities, the association is adopting the policy of establishing clubs in suburban and country localities.. Club leaders are ■ trained by the association. In tho northern coalfield districts several branches have been founded, and incorporate both mothers' and girls' clubs.
In the Sydney suburban area there is a centre at-Chatswood and.a second one under consideration at Manly.
