•■-■'■■ , -OTTAWA, February--4. Opposing the proposal to nationalise banks by Mr. William Irvine, United Farmers Par^y, Mr. E. N. Rhodes, Minister of Finance, , told the House of Commons that if the banks were socialised, Governments would be in control of banking principles" : and eventually-smash them. He asked what would happen if a Government, facing an election, had to choose between the country's good-and its own political fate. .
