GAS SUPPLY CUT OFF
DEFECT IN GASOMETER EFFECT. OF SUN'S GREAT HEAT : , (By Telegraph—Press Association.) . WOODVILLE, February 5. A failure has occurred in the WoodVille Borough Council's gas supply owing to the great heat of the sun on Sunday causing the gasometer to rise above the safety position and strain a number of plates. A large quantity of gas, estimated at 13,000 feet, escaped, and for a time the town was without gas. Temporary; repairs have been effected, and gas is now being pumped direct into the mains, while a forty-gallon oil drum is being used as a safety valve. The water in the tank of the gasometer is being drained off, and when this operation is completed the old gasometer will be restored to its foundations. There are several buckled plates to be straightened, and full restoration of the plant is expected within a fortnight.
