RACING AT TARANAKI
TOMORROW'S GOOD FIELDS
HORSES IN LIKELY FORM
The provincial autumn circuit on the West Coast o£ the Noith Island will be continued tomorrow iwlh the opening day ot the Taianaki Jockey Club's, Autumn Meeting at New Plj mouth. Good fields aie accepted for all events, and the general quality is rather better than that w hick raced at Wanganui last week. The ■weather continues fine, and the tiack will be -very fast. The wm-and-place sjsteni of betting will , bo in operation. It was this club that first introduced the mode t& the Dominion over two years ago. The fields and a levicw of piospects are as follows.— 12 0: WAITARA HURDLES, £100- 1% miles and 100 >aras Illuminate .. II 9 Sandy Dix ... 9 5 m i .Vt.' *•' 10 7 March Alona . 9 0 Blacksmith .. 10 2 Gowanlea ... 9 0 Beau Star .... 0 5 The favourite for the Waitaia Hurdles will probably be Illuminate, who has speed on the flat and can carry weight Measured through his opposition lie does not, appearl unreasonably weighted at 11.9, tor he cairied 10.12 in limning second to Verden, on New Year's Day at Ellershe. Xthan will, requue to improve on his Wanganui iihowings, but the course may suit him butter. Sandy Dix and Beau Star have the pace to go with the topweight, though the latter does not stick too well, and Blacksmith iB fancily weighted if he does not feel the going, A good pair may be Illuminate and Sandy Dix. 12.45: NGAMOTU JUVENILE HANDICAP, iilOO; 5 furlongs. Collodion .. 9 5 Wlnds, orcen ..7 5 Hororata ... 810 Bonny Glow ..7 2 Note Issuo ... 712 requisite ... 7 2 j?6' A, cr,e ••• 7 8 Matrimony ..7 0 Link Divine ..7 7 Grateful .... i 0 Dalve' 7 5 Chief Lady ..7 0 With Wotan not on hand the Ngamotn Juvenile Handicap beais an open issue again. Fast Acre's recent place consistency has eained him the right to a winning bracket, and lie may be the public -choice. Collodion sometimes stops very badly, but he Jacks nothing in the way ot curly pace. Hoioiata is, a two-year-old foim, and Note Isiuo was at last a n inner at Ashhmbt. Link Divine is a well- ' leputed juvenile whom Tnune only naiiowly defeated at lakapuna m November Urateful and Chief Lady (who is bad at the bamei) aic other prospects, and - Matrimony may be improving. The best may be Fast Acre and Link Divine. 1.30: rLYING HANDICAP. £150; 6 furlongs Dlalomous ...,9 0 Limulus 7 x Red Manfred ... 813 Pladio ..'.'.'.'. A 5 Jtother Burnish 7 6 Superior 8 1 Bodyllno 7 2 Copyist 7 12 Moatoa 7 0 Lady Kyra .. 7 12 , With .<the topweightjf recently lacing below form, the winner of the Flying Handicap may-come fiom the lower section. Limulus is the possible favounte, v for it seems her middle-day form at • lientham might be overlooked, but two . other three-year-olds in the fastfinishing Lady_-_Kyra and the apparently improving Burnish will give her full test. ,At their best \Diatomous and Mother Superior would be very hard, but one has to forget about how they failed at their latest starts. Copyist's effoit will be interesting, after his recent lapse. A pair who will be fancied are Limulus and Lady Kyra. , 2.13: MOTimOA ELECTRIC HANDICAP, £80; 6 furlongs. }', laco 8 0 Bed Hawls ... 8 0 Irue Measure . 8 0 Joy Bos 8 0 Kingsido .... 8 0 Inveresk g n Bay Sand .... 8 0 Red Sand .... 8 0 Lady Elta .... 8 0 Royal Peak ..8 0 Dalvet 8 0 Wharurangi ..8 0 Fanloff 8 0 Bed Fbz 8 0 There is veiy little real form to assist investors in the Motnroa Electric Novice Race, in which all runners will carry 8.0. The disappointing Inyeresk has'the best race credentials, with several recent beconds, but Ringside and Panloff have also been lacing like possible improvers, and Vmeo has done some good track work on occasions recently at Trenthain.- It is; a race in which there may be a surprise, but a couple who appeal are Vinco and Ihveresk (or Ringside). 3 .0: TARAXAKI CUP TIAJ<DICAP. £320; 1% mito. ' Ked Manfred . U 4 Lalla Quex ... 7 7 Aga Khan ... 9 1 Ferson 7 5 Hazoor 8 7 Davlstock ... 7 5 Cherry King .. 8 5 Tahurangl ... 7 0 Pomp .8. 0 The TaranakS Cnp bears its usual open _ appearance, but although, the three topweights (Red Manfred, Aga Khan, and Hazoor) will all have friends one feels inclined to search lower down for1 the likely winner. In this group is Cherry King, an unlucky runner on the final day at Trentham, and he will be solidly supported. He hails from the same stable as Lippulus. The most dangerous rival for this horse may prove to be the three-year-old staying Fersen, who has impressed in hk recent efforts. Lalla Quex is also a prospect on her home track. A good form pair read to be Cherry King and Fersen. 3.15: OKAXO HACK HANDICAP, £105; 9 furlongs. Tahurangl ... 8 9 Taltoru 713 Dtagano .... 8 7 Dorado „.... 7 7 Red Riu*us >.. 8 6 Boudoir ..... 7 2 St Clara S 3 Ingenuity .... 7 0 Silk Sox 8 1 Had Diagano not raced so poorly on the % final day at Wanganui he would have been t in'assured favourite for the Okato Hack Handicap, but he will now acquire to improve considerably on that ninning. On the weights both Silk Sox and St. Clara should again lead him home, but one who may be preferred to.either is Tahurangi, who won each day at the Summer Meeting on the course. Red Rufus is coming back to form too, judged thiough his Trentham efforts, and he is now better placed in-the weights. The 'others lack form, though Boudoir was backed ono day at Wanganui.- On recent running a likely pair may be Tahurangi and Red Rufus. 4.30 : MIMI HIGHWEIGHT HANDICAP, £110; 7 furlongs. Rurl 9 2 Rust 8 11 Chief JTuIl Throttlo .88 Marlonetta 8 13 Merry Way... 8 2 Hunt tho Colcnso 8 0 Slipper 811 Flamingo .... 8 0 Dlagano .... 811 # Chief Marionette's holiday form'would make her look a rosy proposition in the ' Mitni Highweight Handicap, but Diagano (i£ reserved) and Bust are both soits who might worry her over seven furlongs, arid - C'olenso too may atone for his Wanganui failure after a poor run. Rust at times attracts as a very promising filly, but at other times she races moderately. Hunt the Slipper and Flamingo have possibilities of surprising about them. Perhaps the likeliest pair are Chief Marionette and Diagano (or Rust). 5.15: TIMAHU HACK HANDICAP. £100; ■ 6 furlongs. .Pladlo ...... 9.4 The Aark .... -7 8 Full Throttle . 8 10 Gold Gleam ~ 78 Glenvaae .... 8 5 True Measure 7 6 Brown Betty .8 4 Royal Secret .70 Cereal 713 Invcresk .... 7 0 Ohewhetu ... 712 Wlndsorcen .. 7 0 Debut ...... 711 Ringside .;.. 7:0 Aijssla Ra .... 7 9 Panloff 7 0 Probably the most open issue of the day is offered by the Timaru Hack Handicap, for which there are sixteen acceptors. The Ark, Full Throttle, Onewhetu, Gold Gleam, and Glenvane are in forni, but Pladie was racing at;his, best again during the Holidays. These may: be the favoured section, but Brown Betty, Aussie Ra, and Royal Secret are among other possibilities. The Ark's consistency is likely! toisend him out one of the main favourites, and th£ pair whom he ; may find hardest are Glenvane, not too lucky on the final dny at Wanganui; and Pladie;with li.:G;'Mor< ris aboard. A pair who are sure to command support are The Ark and Glenvane.
