LODGE MEETINGS
MANCHESTER UNITY,
Greytown Lodge.—Bro. H. Morris, N.G., presided over a'full attendance. One member was declared on the funds and one maternity claim was granted. Bro. J. Hiroti was elected delegate to the District Conference to be held at Masterton on March 5, and was also nominated for a seat on the management committee of the district. It was resolved to have the winning ritual, team photographed. The secretary presented figures relative to the period 1924-34, and it was shown that the funds had increased by £2367. Amounts paid out included sick pay £1535, and funeral benefits £726. Hospital accounts paid since December, 1928, amounted to £975. ■
Mangatainoka Lodge.—Bro. K. Pryde, N.G., presided. Bro. R. Farrow, Loyal Eketahuna Lodge, was nominated for a seat on the district management committee. Bro. S. J. Matthews presented the balance-sheet in connection with the Friendly Societies' picnic held on Anniversary Day, and Bro. A. E. South reported on the auditing of the lodge books. Officers of Eketahuna Lodge were present for the purpose of participating in the half-yearly ritual competition. The result of the contest was the winmng of the Farrow Shield by Mangatainoka Lodge by 148 points against 133 for Eketahuna Lodge. One candidate was nominated for membership. Nerctown Lodge.—Bro'. Reynard was the presiding officer. Sick reports were received and payments authorised. A' letter of appreciation was received from a brother who had obtained assistance from the Lodge Distress Fund. Nominations for district officers were received as follows: —District Grand Master, Bro. K. Cropp; deputy district G.M., Bro. C. O. Jorgensen and Sister E. McFarlane; district management committee, Bro." S. Eades; district auditor, Bro. Parks; assistant district auditor, Bro. G. Bell; relieving officer, Bro. W. Maddeley. Table tennis and cards concluded a pleasant evening.
Wellington Past Grands' Lodge—The annual meeting was well attended.' The following officers were elected for 1935:— President, Bro. C. W. Johnson; vice-presi-dent, Bro. C. W. Bird; warden, Bro. S. Eades; guardian, Bro. H. Harris; conductor, Bro. F. Rushton; I.P. president, Brol G. Bell; management committee, lodge officers and Bros. Burnette, R. Foote, and Mikoz. The hew officers were installed by Bro. K. Cropp, D.D.G.M., and addressed by Bro. G. W. Shrimpton. A motion that the lodge disband was heavily defeated. A motion that the ritual competition be discontinued was deferred until a sub-committee has considered the matter and reported to next meeting. The sub-committee elected was: Bros. Shrimpton (grand secretary), A. C. Blair (deputy Grand Master), G. Turner (past district Grand Master), E. Guise (district secretary), Stewart, and C. Johnston. The balance-sheet for last year was submitted.
Britannia Lodge.—Bro. Wickens presided over a fair attendance. It. was resolved that letters of condolence be forwarded to the relatives of the late Bros. W. J. Staff and Cartmer, both very old members of the lodge. The Noble Grand reported on an official visit to Newtown Lodge, and also intimated the intention of the officers of the lodge to visit all lodges in the district during this term." Bros. Brown and Gooding were nominated as delegates to the biennial movable conference, and Bro. C. O. Jorgensen for.the office of assistant district auditor. A report was given by Bro. Stewart relative to the Friendly Society's Dispensary.
Combination Lodge.—Bro. F. A. Davis presided. Nominations were received for district officers, and Bro, W. P. Holt was elected delegate to the forthcoming district conference. ,
Petone. Lodge (Moera Branch). —Sister E. Copeland presided over a good attendance. At the -conclusion of business Bro. G. D. Gilbertson was presented with a Past Grand's collar. Bro. G. A. Westbrook also thanked the lodge for the presentation of a purple collar. Lodge honours were accorded visitors from the parent lodge, Bro. R. Foote thanking the.branch for its hospitality. At the close .of the meeting games of cards, ping-pong, and indoor bowls were played. •
Antipodean Lodge.—Past Grand Bro. G. Read, as acting Noble Grand, presided over a large attendance. Nominations for district office were received as follows:— Deputy D.G.M.,- Bro. ;G. Craddock; management committee, Bros. G. Craddock, W% B. Moseley, and T. Mulcahy. Nominations, for delegates to the biennial movable conference were Bros. A. C. Blair, E. W. Guise, and G. Craddock. A report on U.F.S. Dispensary affairs- was read. Three nominations for membership were received.
Heart of Oak Lodge—Bro. F. S. Wilkins presided. One candidate was proposed for advancement to the purple degree. The following nominations were received for district office:—District Grand Master, Bro. K. Cropp; deputy D.G.M., Bro. A. Rippon; district management committee, Bros. A. Rippon, H. R. Tilson, R. Farrow, and Sister _E; McFarlane. The question of commencing a juvenile lodge in Carterton was discussed, and it was resolved that the matter be more fully gone into at the quarterly meeting in February. Sister Wallis Lodge.—Sister N: Williams presided over a fair attendance. A surprise visit was paid by members of Britannia Lodge. They were accorded a cordial welcome. A new member was initiated. The 1935 social programme was considered, and will be submitted at next meeting for finalisation. AEter. the disposal of routine , business a social hour was spent. Rose of the Valley Lodge.—Bro. A. E. Hewer, N.G., presided over a good attendance: Three members were instructed in the first degree. Bro. Bird repor^d on the recent picnic. The. N.G. reported on a card evening that had been enjoyed at Petone Lodge. Bro. T. Norn's informed the lodge that the D.G.M. (Bro; Gooding) was making an official visit to Rose of the Valley, Rose of Sharon, Petone, and Moera Lodges on February 7 at Rose of the Valley Lodge room. . , Petone Lodge.—Bro; Andrews was in the chair. There was a large attendance, and after the transaction of general business and the receiving of various reports, members enjoyed games of cards and indoor bowls. 1.0.0. F., N. 2. Southern Cross Lodge.—Bro. R. Dunne, N.G., presided over a good attendance. Accounts totalling £174 w«re passed for payment. Reports were received from various committees, and were dealt with by the lodge. One new member was proposed and two members were initiated. The N.G. reported on an official visit to Ngatitoa Lodge, when an unsuccessful challenge was played for the "500" shield. Bro. G. F. Rudkin, Grand Warden, Bro. Valentine, P.G.M., and Bro. R. Mathers, D.D.G.M., paid an official visit, and were accorded the honours of the Order. In reply to a vote of welcome, Bro. Valentine conveyed fraternal greetings from the Grand Master, the D.D.G.M. of South Auckland, and lodges he had visited in the North Island.
