AIR TAXI RATES
REVISED, SCHEDULE
AERO CLUB. LICENCES
The granting of "automatic" licences for commercial flying to aero clubs throughout New Zealand, as provided for" by the Transport Licensing (Commercial Aircraft-Services) Act, received further consideration by the Transport Co-ordination Board today. Sir Stephen Allen (chairman) and Messrs. H. B. S. Johnstone and Lisle Alderton heard the applications, which were made by Mr. S. E.-Nielson on behalf of the nine incorporated aero clubs, the Manawatu Aero Club, and the Melbourne Centenary Air" Race Committee. The taxi rates proposed by the clubs were opposed by New Zealand Airways, Ltd. (Dunedin) represented by Mr. J. P. Ward. The board reserved its decision on the question of charges.
This morning Mr. Nielson said that he had gone into the question of taxicharges and would submit the following revised rates:—
One-passenger machines, £3 per 100 miles; two-passenger, £3 10s per 100 miles; 3-4-passenger, £3 15s per 100 miles; the Centenary Air Race Committee's machine, £6'per hour. Mr. J. P. "Ward: Those prices are up 50 per cent.
Mr. Nielson: No, that is not correct. They are up 2s. The machines would travel 75 miles per hour and the previous quote was per flying-hour. After further examination regarding flying costs the board reserved-its decision.
