TENNIS TOURS
NEW ZEALAND AND DAVIS CUP
(Special to thfe "Evening, Post.")
PALMERSTON N., This Day.
Included in the agenda paper at the Manawatu Lawn Tennis Association executive meeting last evening, was a notice of motion" from the Wellington Association regarding the 1934 Davis Cup expenditure and .the decision to make an entry this year rather than send a team of promising young players to New South "Wales or other Australian championships.
Referring to " the final suggestion, the chairman" (Mr. J. T. McDonald), said he considered it a fine idea. Although it was nice to have Andrews, Malfroy, and Stedman keeping New Zealand's name on 'the tennis map, these men were doing nothing to foster the game in New Zealand. He considered Wellington's proposal : a move in the right direction;
It -was remarked that it would be hardly fair to withdraw the entry now that the draw had been announced.
Mr. D. J. Robertson- pointed out that if the Davis Cup match was to be played in Australia, there would be no need to cancel the entry, for young players could be sent across from New Zealand. ' , The chairman pointed out, that there was a principle involved 'Mr. C. C. Yates thought the matter of sending young players to Australia could be considered next season and this suggestion found favour with the meeting.
