THE BEST VAULT
BUT SECOND PLACE
(By Telegraph.-Press Association.)
GISBORXE, This Day. An unusual result occurred in the pole vault event at the Hawke's Bay-Poverty Bay Centre's amateur athletic championship meeting on Saturday. The highest vault was that o£ L. Grey (Gisborne), who cleared 10ft-4m, establishing a new record for the centre, but as this was scored in a test for second place R. Johnston (Napier), 10ft 3in, having already been declared the winner, Grey had to be content with second position.
