WOMEN'S INSTITUTES

NORTH" WELLINGTON

The half-yearly meeting of the North Wellington Federation of. Women's Institutes . was held _ yesterday at Levin, represenatives being prosent from 33 branches. The hostesses for the occasion wore the members of the Levin branch, assisted by members from the surrounding branches of Pourutawhao, Kimberley, lhakara, and Koputaroa. Amongst the visitors were Miss Spencer (Hawke's Bay), founder of the movement in New Zealand; Miss Grant, president of the North Wellington Federation; Mrs. W. G. Short, secretary; and Mrs. Barnieoat, treasurer. Addresses of welcome were given by the Mayor of Levin (Mr. P. W. Goldsmith) and Mrs. C. E. Thorpe (president of the Levin branch), the reply on behalf of tho visitors being mado by Miss Grant. The morning session was opened with the singing of the "Ode," and that in the afternoon with the "Hymn."

Business of a routine nature was conducted, Miss Grant being in the chair. Handwork by members of the various branches represented and also the Dominion loan exhibits were displayed, those proving very interesting. Votes'of thanks to the hostesses and to the chair concluded a niOßt successful social and business meeting.
