ON TRENTHAM TRACKS

THIS MORNING'S GALLOPS

AUTOPAY LOOKS VERY FIT

(Ey "Rangatira.") Only four outside horses have yet appeared on the scene for the Wellington Meeting the coming -weekend, and there was nothing of note in the work at Trenthnm this morning. After the rain of the past two days the tracks were greasy, but as it has cleared up again and the sun has been shining all day they should recover quickly. Unless a lot more rain should fall, and continue up to the racing, the going should be quite firm on Saturday. The only track open for galloping this morning was the inside grass. The visitors to arrive over tho weekend wore Cawbeen '(W. 11. Corlott), Dawn Princess (L. T. Long), Brambletorn (D. Moroney), and Flamingo (L. Gray). Corlett did not bring De Trop, but "sent him back to Hastings. Cawbeen (J.'Sheenan) sprinted home the last couple of furlongs of her work. No decision has been made as to which race she shall contest on Saturday. She looks in fine order. Dawn Princess (Sheenan) and Brambletorn (P. Burgess) were sent an easy six furlongs, taking 33sec for the first two, but then warming up to run the last half-mile in 52scc. The mare was a length in front at the close. Brambletorn's legs are not too sound, but. so far he has been standing up to what has been required from him* Flamingo (A. Hobson) also did his work easily, running half a mile after a slow beginning in 54sec. Autopay, back from his Sydney trip, is a better horse than when ho left if appearances count for anything. He did his customary exercise in the centre of the course. Orby's Last (D. Wilson) and the two-year-old East Capo (W. Tippett) ran the last half-mile of five furlongs comfortably iv 53.sec. If Orby's Last is started on Saturday W. J. Broughton will probably have the ride. Nightlass (J. K. Robertson) did an easy three furlongs in 40soe. Purse was exercised only. Buy Area. (.1. Jillett) beat Arctic King (D. Bush) by three lengths over five furlongs in l';in 3sec, the iast halfmile in CUisec, but there was a fair difference iii the v.tights they carried. Pnhu (Hobson) ran nis first half of a mile iv 57sec, and came home at a better pace in 53sce. Bellbroney (J. MeCauley) did the last half-mile of an easy six furlongs in 54soc. Roderick Dim (J. McCauley) finished half a length in front of Eedtop (B. McCauley) after running tho last halfmile of "six furlongs' in .52sec. Otaura King (Hobson) did a similar task, coming home the last half-mile in 55sec. Over sevna furlongs Te Ua (Burgess) beat Vitaphone (Hobson) by a couple of lengths in lmin 37soc, the final halfmile in 54see. Might (Jillett) nnd Synagogue (J. Gunn) went out to do a working gallop over six furlongs, but Might was keen and they ran the last half-mile in 53isec, Might finishing a length in front. Broughton will probably ride both these horses on Saturday. Might, is now without a New Zealand Cup rider, as W. E. Pino., who had been engaged, is going to Avondalc instead of Riecnrton. Chile (Burgess) jumped seven hurdles satisfactorily. Diamond (I. Rohloff) gave a good display of jumping for a. comparative novice over eight fences. Up till noon today no further scratching had been made for tho opening day at Trenthnm. It is clear, however, that the big hack seven field will be somewhat reduced before, tho day. Amoii" the unlikely starters are the top pair, Beau Gallants and Hunting Jay also De Trop and Dampier. Grand Sport Cawbeen, and Cherry King are others with dual engagements, and Grand Sport for one is said to be a probable starter in the open sprint.
