A WET WEEKEND

Special forecast for Wellington:— Light to moderate southerly winds. Weather overcast at first with an occasional drizzle, but soon improving. Tho general forecast issued at noon today is for light to moderate and variable winds, with southorlies predominating except over tho southern half of the South Island. The weather in tho North Island will bo cloudy to overcast with scattered light rain, but it should iniprovo gradually. Elsewhere it will be fair to fine. During tho wcekond tho trough of a low-pi'cssuro system extended from north to south over tho Dominion, while anticyclones lay respectively to tho east and over tho western part of the Tasmaii Sea. Dull and misty weather was experienced, with rain at times in most districts and with variable winds. On Saturday strong north-westerly winds prevailed to tho north of Wostport and Kaikoura, but since Sunday theso have been mainly light to moderate, and southorlies have extended as far north as Cook Strait. By this morning the weather had improved somewhat over most of tho South Island, but rain was still falling this morning in scattered places from Cook Strait northwards. Auckland had fine weather on Satur; day, but Sunday was dull and showery in the afternoon. Some heavy rain fell thcro last night, and at 9 a.m. today it was still raining with a northerly wind. AVellington had mild and dull weather on Saturday with a strong wind from the north-west which, however, decreased in force during the afternoon. Bain began to fall at 2.15 a.m. on Sunday, and up to 9 o'clock that morning 54points had been recorded at Kelburn and 72 in Lower Hutt. Sunday was a dull, misty, and wet day, the wind changing to a- light southerly during the afternoon. Yesterday's rainfall totalled 83 points at Kelburn and 85 in. Lower Hutt. At 9 a.m. today a light southj easterly wind was blowing and light ! rain was still falling. [ Christehurch had calm and dull weaj ther on Saturday. It rained between 5 p.m. and " a.m. (Sunday), 26 points being recorded. A south-westerly breeze prevailed. On Sunday the weather was again dull, :t trace of rain being recorded during tho night. Conditions this morning were still overcast, the wind being a light one from the east-north-east. Dunedin had dull weather on Saturday morning, but tho afternoon was sunny, the wind changing from the south-west to tho north-east. Light rain fell on Saturday night,, and Sunday's weather whs palm and dull. At 9 a.m. today tho wrather was fine with a light wind from the north-east.
