WORK OF LOCAL CENTRE
It was reported at the.monthly meeting of tlio Wellington Centre of the New Zealand Eed Cross Society last week that the centre had undertaken to discharge gratuitously the secretarial duties connected with the establishment of a local branch of the New Zealand League for the Hard of Hearing, pending the constitution of executive Machinery.
A sum of £25 for the relief of distress was received from the Commissioner or! Unemployment. The money had already been spent in purchasing women's and children's clothing.
Tho offer of Miss Ada Fulton, an exRed Cross V.A.D., to give a cup, to be known as the Fulton Memorial Cup, in connection with instruction in hygiene and sanitation, was gratefully accepted. The Town Clerk advised that the libraries department was unable to undertake the work of binding Braille volumes.
The chairman (Mr. C. H. Chapman, M.P.) reported upon tho successful reception to Sir lan aud Lady Fraser arranged in co-operation with the Braille Club. . , Tho honorary secretary of the ladies' auxiliary committee reported that tho depot liud been kept busy during the month in making ■ and distributing articles of clothing to cases of distress. In addition to-clothing, foodstuffs, oggs, and fruit had been handed out andten layettes had been supplied to the wives of relief workers. Miss Eagar, honorary secretary of tho cafeteria, reported that the work at the general hospital continued, lacing appreciated by the patients. During the month 1527 had patronised the cafeteria. The Red Cross nurses reported that examinations for tho year in first-aid and home nursing svero now in progress, having been completed at Potone Convent, Potone West School. Hutt Central School, and Wellington Girls' College. _ The following donations wore acknowledged:—Agricultural Department staft, 15s; Mr. Eichelbaum, £1 Is; Messrs.
