"ABSOLUTE ROBBERY"

BUS FARES TO HUTT PARK

An assertion that the fare charged on the railway buses running to the trotting meeting at Hutt Park was "absolute robbery" was made by Mr. A. Harris (Government, Waitemata) in the House of Bepresentatives yesterday afternoon.

Mr. Harris said that a friend who had accompanied him to the trots had been charged 2s each way on the buses which were run by the Eailway Department to the course. He had been told that the Eastbourne bus charged Is 9d return for the same ■journey, and "ho thought that the charge made by the railways was beyond all reason. It was nothing less than absolute robbery. The Minister of Railways (the Bt. Hon. G. W. Forbes) said that whenever special buses were run there was always a- higher charge than for the ordinary services. In Ohristchurch extra fares were charged on the special trams running to the show, the charge being almost double the ordinary rate.

Mr. H. S. S. Kyle (Government, Kiccarton): It is the same for" the races. Mr. Forbes said that when special buses were put on there was extra expense involved.
