CHANGES IN THE CLUBS
■ The usual changes in clubs are taking place at this time of the year, and some uncertainty prevails about a number of leading players. Especially
whero they belong to two clubs, their future is not very distinct at the moment, and some of the information set out below must bo taken in light of this knowledge. Brougham Hill, who won the men's and women's first grade championships again last year, expect to field only one team in each grade this season in place of the two men's teams they entered last year. For the men's side it is expected that D. G. France, N, F. Bedford, A. Kichards, and D. Howe will bo available, and for the women's team Mrs. H. M. Dykes, Misses Nieliolls, D. Howe, M. Howe, F. North, and M. Williams : (who is returning to Brougham Hill from Newtown Club) will be ready to fill the four available places. Thorndon, which intends to ojiter two men's teams this season, will have quite an array of new talent fa its ranks. Those players who are expected to be found in one. or other of these teams include E. A. Eoussell, N. Smith, J. C. Charters (ranked No. 9 in New Zealand, who has come to. Wellington this year), N. Wilkinsoa (Brougham Hill), K. Dyer (Newtown), B. R. T. Young, H. N. Burns, and S. Wheeler. In addition there are other players who may be found turning out for the club, among them Page (University), and some yet not elected. Wellington, which will also field two teams in tho men's first grade, caa also point to some good newcomers. Among these is Gallagher (Otago), M. Ferkins, and Gifford-Moore. Tha teams are likely to be drawn from Coombe, Purvis, M. Ferkins, and Gif-ford-Moore, Fouhy and Wise. Two younger players of promise are Eenouf and Waters, who have both joined up this season, and the ranks of the ladies have been reinforced by Miss Herd, who has played for ' Manawatu. Newtown Club has suffered some losses. Stoddart and Sykes have both, left the club, and, of course, M, Ferkins is going to Wellington Club. Though Miss M. Williams is leaving to go to Brougham Hill, the ladies are being strengthened by the addition of Miss I. Small, who played in the Nunneley Casket matches for the combined West Coast team which, visited Wellington last season. . . • .
