FERTILISER SUPPLIES
PRICE-CUTTING COMPETITION
(By Telegraph—Press Association.)
AUCKLAND, October 12,
Superphosphate is now available to farmers at £3 16s per ton as a result of reselling competition between dairy companies and merchants. It is stated that there is no dispute between the manufacturers, whose prices to the trade remain the same—£.4 per ton, less discount. Price-cutting competition in tho trade has been brought about by the term;, of the Order in Council issued in July, according to a statement made. This fixed the maximum price in the North Island at £4 per ton and also provided conditions relating to discounts and commissions which now prevent manufacturers from fixing the retail price to iho farmer. Under these conditions dairy companies have been able to cut prices by forgoing their trading margin. The move has been followed by some merchants, but a meeting will be held next, week to discuss the position.
