As' usual, at the beginning of the summer tiie Queen of the Fairies and thd Queen of the Ladybirds were plarining a new campaign against the Green Fly.
"It's no use pretending we were a success la\st year,"-Confessed the Queen of tlib liiJso Tairie?. "Because' we weren't. Wherever I went I heard people complaining about their roses. There was old Mr. Jackson, for instance,, who lives in Rose Cottage, Green Lane, he was . . . ." "Angry," suggested the Queen of the Ladybirds. "Angry," repeated the Queen of the Rose Fairies." "He was furious. I happeiied to be passing one day. when he was looking at his roses,; and my ears tingled. The things he said were -—■well, I scarcely like iriy fairies to t hear . the'ihl". "It was a bad year/ admitted the Qugeh of thfl Ladybirds. "For some reason they were very few ladybirds, and though we othei-s ate and ate the green fly till we could scarcely move, it made no difference. We ■ . ... .'.' . . "Hist," whispered the Queen of Rose Fairies) rising quietly from the "Dorothy Perkins" leaf on which they were sitting. "What was that noise?" "I heard no noise/ said the Queen Of the LadyiiirdSj "but Til go and see if you like/ ■ She crawled on to the other side of the.loaf, and in a short time came back looking a little red in the face. "Well," said the Queen of the Rose Fairies. , "A green fly had been listening to iis," panted the Queen of the Ladybirds.
