Consequently, a temporary southerly change occurred in the southern portion of the South Island In the night, but generally strong north to north-west winds have continued to prevail. Rain has faUen in the western and southern districts of the South Island, heavy falls occurring in places, and this morning it was raining on the east coast up as far as Timaru. The eastern districts generally, however, and most of the North Island have had fair to fine weather with mild temperatures.
