YOUNG SINGER'S SUCCESS
(By Telegraph)
(Special to the "Evening Post.")
DUNEDIN, October 12.
Denis Dowling, a young Eanfurly baritone, who is participating in the Centenary Competitions, Melbourne, brought off tlie principal (and richest) award of the festival by winning the grand opera section. The first prize was 130 guineas. There were 93 entrants in the section, eight finalists, one of whom was Miss Alva Myers, of Kaitangata, being heard in the Melbourne Town Hall last night. Mr. Dowling scored a highly meritorious win, especially when it is considered that this particular competition, by its artistic importance and monetary reward, would probably attract the best amateur voices in Australia. ,
