KHANDALLAH CLUB
A keen crowd of Howlers was present for the opening of the season at the Khandallah Bowling Club's green this afternoon.
The'president, Mr, E, Irving Rodger, welcomed the gathering and greeted new members and . two of the older bowlers—Messrs, J. A. Pliinmer and H. H. Taylor, both foundation members of the club when it was formed in 1910 and since honoured as Ufa niembers. Mr. Rodger commented on the fact that, ninety years ago the game of bowls had been prohibited. The prohibition laid been removed in 1845 and that the game was so popular today was due, he thought, to the interest which had been shown by the ladies, to whom he'paid a tribute. He was pleased to have the ladies present again. , Daylight saving was a topic the president touched upon. He thought that country, people should take pity oil townsmen and grant them an extra half-hour of daylight. The green was in good condition and the club was indebted to the greenkoeper, Mr. D. E. Mackay.
Mr. Bodgor looked forward to a successful season and wished one and all the best of sport. Tile first kitty of the season was sent up by Mrs. Rodger,, Mr, Plimmor, a life member, rolling the first bowl amidst'cheers. Apologies were received from Messrs.' R. A. Wright, M.P., and W. H. Field, M.P.. • ' l .
