SATISFACTORY SURPLUS

SUVA, This Day

The Legislative Council opened tlii. morning, the Governor in his speech in> troducing the Budget. The Budget for 1934, including surplus, currency funds, shows a surplus of £117,718 (Fiji). The surplus balances are £318,932. Tlie Budget for- 1935 is anticipated to produce a surplus of £2004. Petrol tax is increased from 5d to Bd, providing interest and sinking fund on a new road loan of £180,000. The cost of the new Government offices, £1,250,000, is borne by surplui funds.
