GISBORNE, June l£

Adverse comment ou the action of -the- Government in spending a large sum of money on. tho Eglmton Valley Koad to Mill'ord Sound, a road which was used mostly for pleasure, .notwithstanding that the unemployment funds arc to be utilised, was made a.t a meeting of the Gisborne Chamber of Commerce toda}', and speakers suggested that a protest be made to the Government.

Speakers said that it required £300,000 to put the Napior-Wairoa Hue iv order, but the Government was spending £250,000 on a road merely for a scenic route.

After discussion it was decided to write to the' district members of Parliament urging them to place-the needs of the district before PKiliament, with special emphasis on the requirements for rail communication.
