MOTOR TRADE DISPUTE
MECHANICS' CONDITIONS
CONCILIATION PROCEEDINGS

CHBISTCHUKCH, June 19.
Tho Dominion motor mechanics dispute was heard, in conciliation council this morning. There has lieeii no award covering'these workers for two years. About 2000 workers are concerned in the dispute.'' .
The application was made by the Amalgamated Engineering and Allied Trades ' Industrial Association of Workers (New Zealand Council)./
The applicants asked for 2s 3d an hour for journeymen, 2s IJd for assemblers and vulcanisers, and Is lid for other' garage workers. The employers offered Is lOd an hour for mechanics, Is SJd for assemblers and vulcanisers, ls-7d for garago attendants and first-year improvers, and Is Sd. for second-year improvers. The employees' representatives offered reduced wages demands, and when these were unacceptable to the employers' representatives they offered to settle at still lower rates. This offer the employers' representatives agreed to refer to their principals. The wages asked were: Certificated workers 2s. Id an hour, journeymen Is lid, assemblers and vulcanisers Is lOd, and other workers Is 9d.
